We’re talking about the LG Flex. Yes, it is also one of only two devices with a curved real estate – an OLED 6 inches to be exact, and will probably give its co-Korean tech flag bearer a run for its money. The only downside on the Flex is that it only has 244ppi, or 720p resolution, whereas the Galaxy Round flaunts a 386ppi on (1920×1080) on full HD.

And it’s curved on the Y-axis as opposed to X on the Round. There’s not much review on both devices as of today, but for some reason, I’m digging the Flex, since I usually keep my already out of date device on my pocket with my thighs bulging all over my jeans.

Moreover, the Flex is powered by the Snapdragon 800 processor, clocked in at 2.26GHz and will also have 2GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel rear clicker and a 3,500mAh battery.

LG also expressed that the Flex will incorporate their “self healing” technology – a special film placed on the back of the Flex that, according to them will “heal minor scratches withing minutes”. Too science fiction, but at the cost of erasing those hairline to cat like scratches on a device this beautiful, it’ll all be worth my imagination. OUR imagination, actually.

This may not be the freshest of news, but it still worth reading AND anticipating.

Korean tech giants LG and Samsung have been, for years concocting on the idea of developing a Smartphone with a curved screen and, by the look of things, it looks like LG is taking the steering wheel in this concept, as reported by Wall Street Journal recently.

As reported, LG is bracing for its curved screen Smartphone release sometime in November and it will, according to the news be called G Flex. While this may be of some truth, other sources are now showing up and telling us that it will be called the LG Z.

The device is said to have a 6-inch screen and will use a concave curve “that runs vertically” or somewhat similar to the Contour Glass on the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. Now comes the intriguing part: the device will also incorporate the screen with AMOLED tech which LG doesn’t cater (is this where Samsung comes in?).

Whether it may be LG and/or Samsung, I’m sure we’ll anticipate the day that we’ll have a curved screen Smartphone. Are you excited to have one? Tell us your thoughts, people!

Other than it is using the latest quad-core Tegra 3 from Nvidia, the display is worth mentioning as it uses LG’s IPS display at 4.7″inch display. If you compare the display size – the Galaxy S II is at 4.3″, Galaxy Nexus is at 4.65″.

PhoneTab is the new sensation. It’s a hybrid between a smartphone and tablet. Samsung is the first two introduce this on the market and many like it.  LG also entered the PhoneTab arena by introducing the LG Optimus Vu. It is a 5-inch device and it’s pictured side-by-side with Samsung’s Galaxy Note. The specs is said to be a dual-core Qualcomm WPQ8060 processor running at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of ROM, and an 8-megapixel camera. The dispaly is 1280×768 @ 4:3 aspect ratio which is more sharp than the Galaxy Note.
There is no other word but it seems this is a teaser from LG in preparation for the Mobile Word Congress at the end of this month.

The first to get upgrade are those top of the line and exclusive phones mostly US and Europe. For global phones, the LG Optimus 2x is one included in the list followed by some high-end and mid-range phone like the Optimus Black.

Lets hope that LG will release the upgrade as promised because Android geeks and fans all over the world are pretty excited  for the Ice Cream Sandwich sweetness.

Rejoice LG Optimus owners! Lucky Goldstar Electronics finally announced there plan for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the current LG Optimus High-end line up.  Optimus line up that will get Android 4.0 update are as follows LG Optimus 2x, LG Optimus 3D, LG Optimus Black and Optimus LTE.

The schedule of the roll out for the LG Android ICS upgrade will be finalize and will be announced this December. If this is the case LG Optimus Android ICS upgrade will out by first quarter of 2012 and will announce further devices that might get Android 4.0.

This is the LG announcement via Facebook:

“We are also continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the ICS OS available on as many LG smartphones as possible. LG official statement on Optimus 2x Android 4.0 update:

“LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.

There is no schedule for the LG Android 4.0 update  yet. Samsung already promised that the Samsung Galaxy S 2 and other 2011 Samsung Android phones will get ICS upgrade. Other OEM like Motorola and HTC already gave their respective statements on the said matter.

We can see more Android 4.0 in the middle of 2012 as early as MWC 2012 we will see some upcoming Android 4.0 devices. It’s been the history of Android manufacturers to release new device with new OS after the Mobile World Congress.

The update will not come in the exact date as promised. This has been the history of Android update due to each region’s specific settings of the Android OS.

If you are an Android LG Optimus user, try to check your update if LG Philippines is rolling out the update for the Optimus 2x Gingerbread update. No word for the Optimus One  if  the unit will get an update too. Currently the mentioned  LG Android phones are running Android 2.2 Froyo.

I don’t like bad news but I need to post this. LG Optimus 2x is not getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update so probably this is the last update for your beloved first dual core smartphone Guinness of world book holder.

The operating system is Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This smartphone has WiFi Direct, DLNA(Digital Living Network Alliance) – enables you to display your mobile display to DLNA capable LED or LCD monitors, Bluetooth, HDMI Output. The Camera is a 5MP but the downside is it has no flash.

Another nifty feature of this LG Android phone is its display. The display uses IPS Panel with 700nits making the brightest display for smartphone to date. It can also record 1080p video and HD playblack. The thickness is 9.65mm and only weighs around 127grams.

The battery is said to be 1500mAh. The price and release date is not yet announced so stay tuned here at PinoyDroid.
